Vintage 0901 – Week II
by Taavi Kuisma on Apr.19, 2009, under Headlines
Hi Y’all,
Another busy week behind us but lucky Finland finally got some sunlight. However it’s still as cold as if we were still in the middle of the winter. So don’t throw those winter jackets to the store rooms just yet.
My new jeans have left a lasting effect on my shoelaces. That’s something I realised few days ago while waiting for a bus at the Helsinki central. Well things could be worse I could have been wearing white shoes for the past two weeks and thus my shoes would have gotten a nice blue shade. And hey you can always switch the laces to some other color if you’re not feeling the new and improved blue(ish) laces.
Indigo bleed is inevitable, though the bleeding effect is a bit more obvious with raw denim. If my memory serves me right, I already brought up the denim bleed in the past so enough about that. Just remember to be careful with your icy white new kicks, heh.
In addition to your newly ‘indigo dyed shoelaces’ the first visible effects of wear are usually found where you cuff your jeans. 0901s were no different. The effect of course is only visible the inside of the jeans.
Majority of the Japanese denim brands have a rather long inseam (e.g. 36 inches with Momotaro). If cuffing your jeans is not your cup of tea there is always hemming, but it’s good to consult a professional tailor who preferably has a Union Special sewing machine available for the chain stitching. If retaining the vintage element is important to you that is, heh.
Although first ‘signs’ of wear are already visible with the 0901s, there’s still a long way to go before my most recent pair of jeans will look something like my previous wear and tear project.

That’s all for now. Hopefully Sunday is as sunny as today was but of course more than two degrees celsius and cold northern wind leave some room for improvement.
Prosperity and enjoyable weekend to everyone. Peiz…
