The 090909 Edition

by on Sep.09, 2009, under Headlines

Hi Y’all,

It’s 09.09.09, a day when plenty of couples get married and probably folks get a good reason to do bunch of other stuff that is then easy to remember in the future, heh. First off, I have to mention that I have been a bit quiet in the past few days, been running around like a fool hoping to take a few days off and just chill. But alas there is plenty of stuff to do, so we’ll see what happens to my few days off, heh.

So today a little blend of kicks and trends. I think that’s a good way to call this Wednesday’s blog edition. 090909 aka the blend, heh.

This would seem to be a very good year for Converse. Why am I saying that? Well because it would seem that every other brand is bringing out kicks that have certainly harvested their influences from the respective line of Chuck Taylors.

Recently I brought up the resemblence between the new Apesta Hi Duck with its traditional canvas high top and the classic Converse All Star.

In line with the Apesta, BBC/ Icea Creams have based their new line of hi-tops on the look and feel of the classic Cons. The graphics of their canvas top are based on the look of the BBC line of clothing for the season.

Another big name in the sneaker game, Adidas introduced their new premium version of the Nizza HiĀ  line of sneakers available in white leather and militar ygreen canvas. I mean everyone can have their own ideas and opinions on this, but I would say it bares quite a resemblence to the Chucks.

But why not? I mean everything else we wear is based on a classic or not so classic looks from the past. Fashion moves in cycles and the cycles get shorter by the year. I mean just recently people were still looking for influences from the eighties, but I guess we don’t have to go that far to find inspiration. Beginning of the 21st century will (and already is) visible in plenty of clothing lines.

Just yesterday I was blessed with an opportunity to have a delightful conversation with my younger brother about jeans. It was mainly back and forth about the recent popularity of the skinny (girlfriend) jeans. Again, I am talking about the super skinny girlfriend jeans here, not slim fitting jeans. Slim fitting jeans can and do look good if the jeans have some level of comfort to left in them. But some of the skinny jeans do not make any sense. But anyway, my brother did bring up my own style jeans from years back, aka the baggy look. It’s not that long ago when the baggy sagging jeans were the thing to have and now people advocate against those same baggy jeans. Of course there are those who still love their jeans baggy, but the really and I mean REALLY baggy look is no longer existent. But I am sure we will seen this look resurrected at some point. I mean hey, they have re-introduced the Carrot Top/ Hunter jeans, which I guess serve some purpose but is a mighty fine example of a fad. I could almost argue that talking about what’s out of style this season or this year is totally useless as the styles never really disappear and even re-emerge in the mainstream most likely already next year.

I think the time is soon right for me to dig up my XXXL airbrushed Buggs Bunny denim jacket from 5 years ago. Haha, It was fresh then and I am sure it will be fresh again in no time.

Now I do not mean to step on anyone’s toes here, but I find it rather hilarious how the fashion magazines and industry insiders say that denim is the in thing this season. Well, as far as I know it has been an in thing since they introduced it to the public a century ago. I mean it’s now OK to bring out your denim jacket from two years back as it’s cool to wear it now. C’mon, that means that those who have been wearing that jacket for the past four years are fashion pioneers. I am only using denim as an example here, being that it’s close to my heart. But the same applies to shoes, leather jackets etc etc. Clothes are just pieces of fabric, that the wearer brings to life.

That’s all for now, but stay fresh y’all and we’ll be back with more shortly. Now I’m out, peace and prosperity…
