Fashion and Social Media

HI Y’all,
I am a social media addict. There, I said it. I’m addicted to my crackberry (I know iPhone is not a Blackberry), my Facebook and my twitter account and all sorts of forums out there on the web. I mean ever since the first time I got myself an MSN account I was hooked. I get most of my daily news through some sort of social/ digital media. The innovations like Apple’s iPad take leaps forward making online magazine/news/book reading even more mobile and convenient. I know I’m a lost cause but I still appreciate a concrete magazine every now and then, latest magazine I was reading was the Workwear magazine. That opus actually contains plenty of details not all so available online. Or maybe I’m just not searching the information in Japanese. But Have you noticed that magazines and newspapers are becoming increasingly slimmer? The companies are transferring their marketing to different media, often online. When was the last time you read a newspaper?
As majority of our operations are online we need to be present in different social media online. You might have come across our Facebook page and group.
And perhaps our Twitter page.
The use of social media is hyped everywhere, online and offline and companies are taking action each on their own weight in their own way. The problem is that sometimes entry to digital media is forced and might prove disastrous. I mean there have been classic cases of companies trying to boost their marketing online and as a result finding themselves in a PR nightmare. But hey, there is no such thing as bad publicity, right?
The main mistake many of the companies make is that they enter the social media online and establish for instance Facebook page and then just leave it there expecting it will have a life of its own. Wrong. Social media especially in corporate use is more like work itself. “Social media executive” is a hot job. Imagine that, get paid for surfing online ans spending time doing what you be doing anyways. Still there are companies that consider the use of social media during work as a risk or a threat even. Banning the use of Facebook and Myspace during working hours in the office is nothing new. In my own opinion this is not erasing the problem just avoiding it. If the company’s employees are unable to balance the use of social media online and their work it is often a management issue rather than issue in the system (social media tool). But what about Technology and Fashion? TribaSpace is making interesting moves on the field of Digital Media and Fashion. Do check it out.
Even high-end fashion brands and boutiques are moving from bricks and mortar to more online environment and moving further away from the old fashion ideal that high-end fashion does not belong online as this somehow reduces the value of the product. Please. The people dealing with the products are the same professionals that normally serve you at the boutique and hey, often these same people do work in the brick and mortar version of the store as well. What companies need to make sure is that they retain the quality of service relative to the brand and its values online the same way as they would in a small traditional store. Online everybody’s equal. Nobody’s going to look down on you based on your outfit or bad hair day. I’ve come to realize that boutique employees are often the worst rubber necks out there. Now don’t get me wrong I love stepping into a boutique with a friendly staff helping me in making a choice between products. It doesn’t matter what you do or where, fluent communication and enough information are the foundation of a successful operation.
I could continue on the topic for a long time, but I think it’s good to leave some for next time as well.
Check out the rejuvenated Momotaro Jeans Facebook page. You can find some information about the brand, pictures and discuss the brand with other Momotaro Jeans fans.
Stay safe (online and offline) and don’t forget the Momotaro Jeans Europe Label initiative. We look forward to your comments and feedback. I’m out, peace.
