Viral Sunday

by on Apr.26, 2010, under Headlines, Social Media & Advertising

Greetings!

Sunday’s pretty much the only day of the week that I dedicate to chilling and relaxation. There’s a little work you need to do, but most of the time is spent with the family, watching movies, surfing the web and reading a book (or most of the time comics). Since I’ve had a great chance to spend more time checking what’s good in the world of digital media, I thought of sharing few nice things, that can lighten up your day as well.

First off I am totally hyped up about the upcoming Iron Man 2. My people in Malaysia already get to peep the movie on 29th of April but we need to wait until 5th of May for the premiere. But to ease the pain of anticipation there are plenty of viral campaigns behind the movie that can keep a fanboy busy. The latest is the Augmented Reality I am Iron Man experience that lets you virtually become Iron Man, or at least wear the helmet on your webcam and see the world through the eyes of Iron Man with the HUD display function. What makes this little campaign nice is the sharing function. You can record and send videos of yourself goofing as Iron Man to your favorite social media channels to be commented on and further shared around the web.

I introduced the Stark Expo 2010 campaign already few weeks back but it’s still running and more content comes up the closer we get to the release of the movie. If you haven’t done so yet, you can read a message from Tony Stark regarding the Stark Expo 2010 below.

Few years back Batman: Dark Knight did very well in terms of viral visibility. The splendid I believe in Harvey Dent and I believe in Harvey Dent Too virals quickly caught the attention of fanboys and movie fans all over the world. When you link the viral to the already huge publicity of a big movie release and on-going ad campaigns, you can reach results that are talked about years after the movie’s release.

Remy already posted the Old Spice ads earlier this week, but I wanted to follow up on that as the Old Spice spots have been somewhat a viral hit around the web with folks sharing the hilarious videos around the web on Facebook and Twitter to name a few channels. And why not? The ads are crazy and are sure to brighten your day.

Apple’s “lost iPhone” was an elaborate little viral that still has the whole web talking. Some have taken advantage of the viral buzz. Lufthansa USA recently released a letter dedicated to the “poor guy” who lost the prototype.

As you can see the letter cleverly directs people to Lufthansa USA’s Twitter profile. This goes to show, you don’t need much to stir a little buzz. Just a simple, cleverly put letter.

These are just few highlighted examples. The web is full of nice stuff and quite often you don’t even need to look for the stuff as it basically comes to you through the share functions.

That said, I leave you with a teaser trailer to a much anticipated season 3 of Boondocks. If you’re not familiar with the series and comic already, I highly recommend checking it out. Be easy everyone, I’m out. Peace…
