Comic book edition – Back in the day

What’s good everyone?

Remy’s kept y’all entertained since yesterday while yours truly has been Hulking out on the work frontier. Let’s just say superpowers would not hurt on weeks like these. But it’s all good, great new contacts talking denim with equally enthusiastic individuals in the region and so on. I haven’t had too much time to devote on my comic book hobby although I have been downloading few comics on my iPhone. But hey weekend’s here! That means more time for family, video games and comic books.

Now since Remy posted a little comedy bid about singing superheroes, I thought why not follow up with another comic book edition. This one titled “back in the day”.

Do you remember your first comic book? Mine was undoubtedly a Donald Duck comic from the 80′s, I’m sure of it. Although I don’t remember my first ever comic book, I do remember my first ever Marvel comic book which just happens to be: Fantastic Four vs. X-Men #2 from 1987. It was crazy, I kept reading the same edition over and over again, not even missing the rest of the four issue series.

This four issue series was originally written by Chris Claremont with art by Jon Bogdanove. It’s one of the stories that bring different teams from Marvel Universe together. But what makes it different is that it actually has the teams somewhat battling each other.

In short, the story revolves around Kitty Pryde of the X-Men being on the verge of disintegration and the rest of the X-Men lead by Magneto doing whatever they can to save her. What pits these teams against each other is Reed Richard’s (Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four) relictance to use his new machine to save Kitty as it has not been tested yet. This naturally pisses of the X-Men and they tought things out. To cut the long story short, the X-Men even bargain with Dr. Doom just to save Kitty.

The story was awesome, I remember being hooked straight after reading the comic book and wanted more. I remember it comic was a hand me down from this older kid in my daycare. I must have been no more than 5 years old. I mean damn I still have the comic stashed somewhere at my hometown. Nostalgia overload. I’m really tempted to buy the original story in hard cover re-release.

I don’t even know why did the comic book suddenly appear in my mind but damn it’s really like it was yesterday. Although I had been following Batman’s adventures for a while already it was still Fantastic Four and X-Men that brought me to the Marvelous world of Marvel. Soon after I got my first Wolverine and Ghost Rider comics followed by Iron Man and Hulk.

What was your first super hero comic book? Can you still remember? Where did you get it? Give us a shout on the Soap Box and throw some comments, we love to hear it from you.

Enjoy the weekend everyone, if you have some comics read them, if you don’t go get some! I’m out, peace.
