Mortal Kombat and fan films in general

by on Jun.09, 2010, under Entertainment, Headlines

Hi folks,

Something good, something bad. First, the good. Lakers won the game three of the NBA Finals. Dope! Derek Fisher played a big game as did the rest of the Lakers. Not a bad game from Boston either, but Lakers was the bigger team. Two more to go and Lakers could be popping champagne in Boston. Then the bad. Either the allergy season kick-started early and kicked me in the face or I’m down with a flu. But def not “down with” the flu. Nevertheless, yours truly is not feeling all too hot right now. Yes, I know, I too am just human. Although I do like to quote Lil’ Wayne’s “we are not the same I am a Martian” lyrics quite often. But down with a flu or just battling the ah so precious allergy season, I still find time for our beloved blog and don’t worry any emails sent to my direction are answered as per usual.

But what better way to spend your “sick day” than lounging at mi casa and watching YouTube. Today’s theme, Fan Films especially Mortal Kombat rebooted!

What you see here is just a fan film (or so I’m told) but this could be a sign of this beloved game series getting a proper movie reboot as well. Who hasn’t played Mortal Kombat games? I mean I remember kicking it with the friends and just playing Mortal Kombat for ages as kids (that’s why I turned out this way). Yeah the games were and are pretty violent but all so dope as well. My favorite characters were always Johnny Cage and Scorpion and definitely my favorite Mortal Kombat game ever, Mortal Kombat 2. I remember we used to practice all of the finishing moves, fatalities, animalities etc. Which of course resulted in hours and hours spent with one of the most violent games of that time. Then there was the movie, which at that time seemed pretty cool but when you watch it again, is a load of rubbish. I haven’t even watched the sequels after Mortal Kombat 2 – The Movie. But the fan movie does have some potential.

One thing though, how the hell are they killing Johnny Cage? Where’s the shadow kick huh?

You might still remember the fan movie on Street Fighter, posted by R some time back. Sometimes the fan movies have plenty of things major productions could learn from. One of the better fan films I have seen is the Batman vs. Predator film from years back.

I guess it’s the fact that fan movies are usually done by true fans of the comic books, or the games for that matter. Being a fan you know how the characters should be portrayed and especially, what other fans like. But yeah, as more great fan films come to our attention we will post them.

So what’s your favorite fan film? Do let us know and give a shout on the Soap Box or comment on the post.

That said I will lay back for a minute and then get back at it like an addict. I will leave you with two words from Mortal Kombat:

Finish him!
