Retro Edition

What’s good?

I’m rolling in a throwback mood and thought of posting little retro edition. I have a feeling that I posted a little throwback edition ages ago but some of the stuff I saw on the web recently got me reminiscing the good old Nintendo 8-Bit days. The Super Ultra Kara-tay video by G-Shock and Kenzo Digital pretty much summarizes the whole retro thing into a nice 6.30 minute package.

And I quote “Film Director and Video Artist Kenzo Digital releases his latest short film starring designers Dee & Ricky commissioned by Casio/G-Shock to launch the latest G-Shock watch designed by Dee & Ricky. An homage to 8-bit video game culture and Kung-Fu movies, “Super Ultra Kara-tay” finds fashion’s latest phenomenon Dee & Ricky as Kung-Fu students who must defend their Lego Shaolin temple against a nefarious villain and his swarm of ninja assassins. “Super Ultra Kara-tay” is an original and innovative new short film that fuses stop motion animation, martial arts, original music production, and Legos in a unique process that has never been done before.” (Kenzo Digital)

I mean Lego was a big thing when I was growing up and it still is. The G-Shock “GA110DR-1A” designed by the fashion team Dee and Ricky pays homage to these building blocks we all grew up to love.

Since both my wife and I are very much looking forward to our baby’s grand entrance this fall (Enter the Dragon), it has gotten me thinking about my own childhood and that of my brother’s and sister’s a lot more than usual. Needless to say all of the retro things are on my mind quite frequently. It will be interesting to see how our baby’s childhood will differ from that of my own, but one thing is for sure. It’s going to be awesome. The added bonus in the whole thing is that I get to live my childhood for the third time already! To clarify that three equals my, my brother’s and my baby’s childhoods.

The classic characters and designs are all over the fashion scene with brands bringing out more and more retro stuff. And it’s not just the fashion labels but this can be seen across the product categories with re-entrance of many beloved characters and trends. Unfortunately this thing also brings up many unnecessary trends as well. Things we could very well have left to the 80′s and 90′s. I’m not going to go into too much detail on this as I don’t want to repeat myself, but I’m sure all of us know some of the things popping out in the media that could have remained forgotten.

Still progress process is inevitable and we just need to enjoy the ride for what it is. So if you have those legos stashed up somewhere, dig them out and no matter what, don’t throw that stuff away. Every toy and object from your childhood is packed with memories. Remember the old days and it could even make you smile. Be easy everyone, I’m out!
