Nordic Denim House Presents: Project Wear and Tear
by Taavi Kuisma on Jan.18, 2011, under Fashion and style, Headlines, News & Events
This is actually our 666th post, like Jay-Z put it, “I’m on my third six but a devil I’m not.” I guess it fits our “devilish” plans to launch a denim project for the year of the rabbit. Project Wear and Tear as we call it will be a global wear and tear project with participants from all over the globe wearing out their jeans the best way they can. The purpose is not to have just another denim contest, we want a fun project that shows how different (or same) jeans evolve worn by different people in different environments. So the whole point is to have fun and share denim as well as life stories on the side. Naturally every project needs a carrot, thus at the end of the project the readers can vote for the winner, whom will get a pair of jeans of his/her choice. Naturally something from the basic lines, not inclusive of Gold or Silver Label Momotaro Jeans. For examples of similar projects you can check out the Copper Label project or the denim project updates we have posted on the NDH Blog.
If you are interested to participate contact us for more details.
The basic rules for the project are:
- To be eligible to take part in the contest, the contestant should have acquired a pair of jeans from Nordic Denim House. People are free to contribute to the project with jeans acquired elsewhere as well, but will not be eligible to take part in the actual contest or win the price(s).
- In the beginning the jeans are still in a new condition, no half “broken in” jeans. Preferably brand new jeans. If you have already started to wear the jeans, we can consider a handicap for the time you have worn them. The jeans should not however have been worn for more than one month.
- The participants will actively (at least once per week) publish their project updates on the Project Wear and Tear site/blog. The updates should be in written form but can consist of only photos and videos as well.
- Nordic Denim House has the right to use the photos and stories published for the purpose of the project on the NDH Blog from time to time.
- The winner will be chosen by voting by the readers.
- The winner can choose a pair of jeans from the NDH catalog free of charge exclusive of Gold Label Momotaro Jeans. The availability of the selected jeans need to be confirmed with Nordic Denim House and the producer upon confirmation of the winner. We will inform you about other possible prices along the way.
In the end I don’t think a fun project needs too many rules and regulations, but since there is a price involved it’s better to have some regulations.
If you want to take part in the project without participating on the competition itself, you are free to do so as well. Everyone or anyone interested, do contact us at info@nordicdenimhouse.com and we’re glad to welcome you on board. The project will kick-start in February (NDH has the right to adjust the starting date). We will inform you all about the actual starting date later on. So basically you have until the kick-off to sign up to the project.
There are already a number of people interested in participating in the project already so I am quite excited to get things rolling. I will post more updates once I have gotten the site/blog up.
So if you are ready to get your jeans from this:

And from this:

to this.

Contact us and let’s make this a fun project. Cheers!

Great to read… suggestion : shouldn’t you give each participant an id nmbr (wich can be stenciled inside the jean (e.g. pocket?

Thanks for the comment Rob. The idea is for each and every participant to take part with their name/nickname. Since I do not expect the contest to have more than dozen participants, giving everyone an id feels a bit redundant. But that’s just my opinion. If the participants want to stencil an id -number to their jeans, that’s fine. But considering the number of different jeans the participants are/will be wearing not to mention the fact that most of the participants already have their jeans I don’t feel it’s right to ask people to stencil their jeans. But if someone wants to do so, by all means. I trust each and everyone will be honest about their wear and tear process and I do not base on too much control. But if others also think this is just and will improve the project, I will hand everyone an ID number. Cheers!

Hi Tim, Yes. It should be a fun project, but carrot never hurts. Let’s see what we can make of this.
Cheers from Malaysia!

It is a fun project…. but, you give away a jean
, which is always nice
and thus adds a this little extra to the project, meaning, beat the hell out of them jeans!
Anyway, if you see all those Momotaro publicity photo’s with awesome fadings, I’m very curious where we will all be next year…

Cheers Rob! Yes, Small carrot to encourage everyone to as you put it, beat their jeans up black and blue.
It will indeed be interesting to see the results. I mean the idea is to have active updates of all jeans and then collate them together. No matter what, it will be cool.

Dope! Now let’s hope y’all got your KIKSxMOMO pairs rather quickly to kickstart this… Oh yeah, maybe you should be distributing repair kits as well : staples & ducktape :-d

it is funny to follow the discussion here. but one question, where are the other participants? no time, no fun no whatever to leave a reply?? just asking?
@Rob, good idea to distribute a repair kit.

Hi Tim, I guess the other participants are saving their postings till the project starts.
There are right now 8 confirmed participants and the styles right now include:
KIKS TYO x Momotaro Jeans
Naked & Famous x Momotaro Jeans
Copper Label G003-MB Momotaro Jeans
Vintage Label 0901 Momotaro Jeans
I think this will be cool. I am happy with the current 8 already but if we can get 2 or 3 more participants, even better.
But the participants have posted comments on Facebook and sent me emails so I know they’re in. I guess folks are waiting for me to put the site up. Damn, I need to step my game up and put up a blog for this. But come this February, we’ll get this show on the road.
Cheers!
