Spray my shirt on!!!

Since last year, there has been an underground buzz about some new type of clothing made by a Fashion designer and a chemist. Together, the pair has created what can simply be called a ‘present, yet futuristic marvel’. The duo has apparently invented the world’s first ever sprayed-on clothing.

Yes, Sprayed-on clothes. The fashion designer named Manel Torres said that he “really wanted to make a futuristic, seamless, quick and comfortable material”. Mr Torres along with his chemist partner Mr Paul Luckham has already created their own company called ‘Fabrican Ltd’. They are already planning ahead and researching other uses for their invention including sprayed-on bandages.

The sprayed on clothes are made from a suspension of cotton fibres and plastic which dries instantly upon touching the skin, leaving a layer of dry cotton on the body carefully aligned with the body’s natural curves. It can be worn all year round and the layers can be added upon depending on the season. Two other benefits are that these sprayed-on clothes can be washed like their normal counterparts and if you do get tired of them, they can easily be turned back into the liquid spray they started off as.

From this blogger’s point of view, this new invention deserves more credit than it is currently having. It is a marvel indeed. But, unless they can complement the sprayed-on cotton t-shirts with some cool sprayed-on denims then they have only solved half of the puzzle. With their main effort now turning towards using their invention for medical purposes, then chances are that sprayed-on denims might be a bit far off in the future.

It might not exactly as futuristic as Mr Torres actually thinks though. To be honest, sprayed on clothes should have already been around when you consider that almost everything can be canned these days. From canned cheese to canned flowers (yes flowers) to pressure canned whip cream and body perfume to sprayed-on spider webs.
