Project Wear and Tear – Week I
by Taavi Kuisma on Feb.13, 2011, under Fashion and style, Headlines, News & Events
Last week marked another milestone for Nordic Denim House with the introduction of Project Wear and Tear supported by Momotaro Jeans, KIKS TYO and Naked & Famous Denim. The idea of the project was to bring together like-minded individuals for a year-long denim project that is at the same time interactive, fun and of course interesting. The idea is to have weekly updates from the participants, whom share pictures of their jeans and the life around the jeans. To keep thing interesting, we added a little Carrot to the project. The “winner”, voted by the readers, can choose a pair of jeans for himself/herself.
The project was kicked off together with Chinese New Year and most of the contestants have already introduced themselves and even shared pics of their on-going projects. We’ve even seen some tear in addition to all that wear.
I will round up the weekly updates in a summary on the blog every week from here on and this one here’s the round-up of week one.
The first week was mostly all about introductions from frozen jeans to body armors and lion dance. Let’s just say the first week alone was extremely interesting. I thought it would be nice to dedicate the first weekly update to the introductions we’ve gotten this far and share some of the pics along the way.
Rob from Antwerp, Belgium kicked off the introductions. As Rob himself put it he is a “denim & workwear passionate whose preferences go to the artisanal and handmade stuff, made in the US, Europe or Japan.” ROb is participating in the project with Vintage Label 0901 Classic Straight jeans , you can read his introduction here.
Next up was Mario from Jakarta, Indonesia. Mario’s a University Student wh currently lives in Hang Zhou, China. Mario is also a denim enthusiast who appreciates artisan products such as leather goods aside from denim of course. Mario is participating with Naked & Famous x Momotaro Jeans. You can read Mario’s introduction by clicking here.
Aside from Project Wear and Tear, Mario is in a “denim duel” against Ika, who is also participating in the project. Ika is a master student at Delft University of Technology living in Hague, Netherlands. Ika spends a lot of time in the lab doing some research for her graduate thesis, but finds time for denim and street photography as well. She is also wearing the Naked & Famous x Momotaro Jeans collaboration. Click here or the picture below for Ika’s introduction.
Some of you are already probably familiar with Tuomas, one of our bloggers and creatives. Although his denim project has already visited Thailand and Malaysia, he is currently living in Finland. Tuomas is participating with G003-MB Copper Label Momotaro Jeans, which I have been wearing for the past 14 months. Tuomas had a freezing kick-start to the project as he literally froze his jeans following a hot soak. Click here for his intro.
Another lady participating in the project is Rob’s wife Nora who is wearing Momotaro Jeans 7003SP Momotaro Jeans Ladies’ Line. Nora is working together with Rob on the Okiya project and it will be definitely interesting to see how the Ladies’ Line jeans wear (and tear). Click here for Nora’s introduction.
And then there was I, me and my Lion Dance. I think most of the people following the NDH Blog already know who I am, but if not, here is what I have to say about myself. “I have seen the world and brought along bits and pieces from each journey. There are no random moves, nor random trips on my journey. I’m a man, husband, father, son, businessman, entrepreneur, writer and a student of life. I strive to conquer the world and enjoy carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders.” The rest of the introduction can be found from the Wear and Tear site. My choice of denim for the project is the KIKS TYO x Momotaro Jeans collaboration which should be arriving as soon as tomorrow at my secret hideout in Malaysia.
This summary is just a tip of the iceberg, I highly recommend checking out the project site, plenty of more material and awesomeness packed into a denim project. There are more introduction still to come and the project is just starting so stay tuned for updates. But at this point all I can say is , it’s on like Donkey Kong!

Cheers Tim! I think it’s nice to have a summary of weekly highlights. Takes only few moments of my time and helps the project.
