Hachi-Roku reborn

I’ve been looking for a new set of wheels for a minute now. Because the fact is, you can’t really survive in Malaysia without a car. Now we have been checking local brands, those compact city cars and pretty much everything that fits our budget. My pick was initially Toyota Prius, but I guess we’ll have to wait for a while before picking that one. My wife needs a car too so buy one now, and maybe another one next year. We’ll see. Anyway, the search for the new ride got somewhat sidetracked when I found three Toyota AE-86 cars in the local market, at a reasonable price as well. Of course the price is almost the same as a brand new compact city car, but we’re talking about Hachi-Roku, one of the most epic rides ever if you ask me. Initial D anyone?

So maybe my wife was not as excited about the prospect as I was, but then I came across an even greater discovery, a remake of the classic. Toyota FT-86. A concept car that was presented at the Geneva Motor Show last year which was the first time the car was shown outside of Japan. Now this car is supposed to pack the spirit of the Hachi-Roku but of course with the modern perk such as Subaru 2.0 liter boxer engine as standard. The car is scheduled for 2012 release, but let’s see. I don’t know how did I miss out on this until now. But if the car makes it to the showrooms it will be a pretty epic remake of a classic.
