Cool kicks and a gas mask

by on Apr.17, 2011, under Comics, Design and Artwork, Headlines, Kicks

Right so when you cop a pair of new Jordans, the first thing is either to put them next to the other cool sneakers on your shelf or put them on and just enjoy the feeling of new shoes. Nothing like the new shoe smell by the way. Only topped by the new car smell I suppose. But for some, they have more sinister plans for the shoes, or perhaps I should say artistic ones. Artist Freehand Profit sure had other plans for a pair of Air Jordans when he created this custom gas mask.

Where as I doubt the functionality of the piece, it does stand out as a pretty artistic creation showing appreciation to the sneaker culture at the same time (I think). Not a bad colorway for the piece either. I see the love for the LA Lakers there. Not sure what inspired the artist, but perhaps more info on this will surface sooner or later.

Aside from this cool finding, this particular pair of kicks sure caught my attention. Nike Air Max Uptempo 97. Favorite of the likes of Scottie Pippen, the shoe became an instant classic already back in 1997 upon its original launch. The details of the shoe certainly differentiate the shoe with its signature tear drops and air bubbles. Awesome shoe for real. Happy to see this particular design being resurrected along with other 90s’ designs. Let’s see what else Nike has in store for us this year.
