JackBacks

Being a big fan of gadgets of all sorts as well as artisan goods it’s always nice to come across something combining both aspects. Jackbacks is an interesting startup by woodworker Adam Baumgartner that focuses on customizable handcrafted wooden iPhone backs. The glass replacements come in different wood types ranging from entry level bamboo backs to premium wood backs made of mahogany, cherry, maple and walnut. The covers made for iPhone 4 are pretty cool alternative to the traditional glass back that also has a tendency to break should it land back first on the ground.

Really awesome business idea and a great example of traditional arts being put to good use in the modern market environment. Alas I don’t have an iPhone 4 (still sticking with my 3G) otherwise I would cop one right away. Especially since the backs start with a mere $89, a low price for a hand made product as such. Of course pay a bit more, get a cherry wood back and your custom engraving that makes you and your phone really stand out. Good look!
