iPhone 4S Santa
by Taavi Kuisma on Dec.19, 2011, under Headlines, Social Media & Advertising, Toys, Games and Gadgets
I’m sure each and every (mostly) happy owner of an iPhone 4S has found a new friend with Siri. My Christmas arrived early as I got my 4S few days ago already. I’m pretty impressed with Siri and she seems to understand what I’m asking as well so it’s all good. I’m not here to go into too much detail on how much I appreciate my new phone, but it is a rather useful tool. Useful enough to be used by a man who has 3.7 billion new appointments and only one night to make sure no child is left without a present. I’m talking about Santa of course. We might not have much snow in Finland right now, but Christmas is more than just snow right? Like presents… Ho ho ho…
Lego meets Lord of the Rings
by Taavi Kuisma on Dec.17, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit were some of my childhood’s favorite books. The stories took you to another world and got my “juvenile” imagination running like no other book. It was great to see these books grow into blockbuster movies and now children (and big kids) can re-live the adventures with LEGO series dedicated to the Lord of the Rings. LEGO’s site has a teaser picture up and the rumor has it the toy collections will be release next year. The timing matches the release of the Hobbit movie stated to be released next year. Another great series transferred to the LEGO realm. My guess is that we’ll see a LOTR LEGO game by 2013. Time to start shopping LEGOs for Maxwell.
Beats By Dr. Dre Studio Color
by Taavi Kuisma on Dec.01, 2011, under Headlines, Social Media & Advertising, Toys, Games and Gadgets
I guess if you went into details in semantics of the ad you could say something like, “the paint in the ad represents the color(s) the new Beats By Dr. Dre headphones bring to one’s life.” Life is so plain so why not add in some color. My take on this however was that the good Doctor likes to throw paint filled water balloons at people just minding their own business. I really like the Beats headphones, can’t afford a pair (or could but don’t dare to buy to retain domestic peace). Not sure if the colorful headphones would be my thing, being the plain kind of guy but it never hurts to have variety for your products. After all, it would be boring if we all were as plain as me…
Momotaro Jeans 2012 Year of the Dragon Calendar and Daruma Doll
by Taavi Kuisma on Nov.29, 2011, under Culture, Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Good fortune for the year 2012. That could have been the title of this post as well. The title is pretty much self explanatory with regards to the content. We just received a batch of Japan Blue Momotaro Jeans Year of the Dragon Calendars for the year 2012. Next year is indeed the Year of the Dragon and this has activated plenty of families around us in an effort to actually get a Dragon Year baby. I know, I know but it is an extremely auspicious year and if I am not mistaken, next year will be the year of the golden dragon which comes along even more seldom.
Protect your iPhone
by Taavi Kuisma on Nov.12, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Anyone whom has dropped their iPhone face first to pavement know that the damage usually results in acquisition of new phone or a very expensive fix as the glass pieces do cost a dollar or two. Fortunately there are number of protective cases out there, some better than the others. Seldom however are the cases made for military grade protection. Case mate are answering to the needs of those who need an iPhone 4 case that can take kicks, hits from hammer, golf club, baseball bat, sand or water. The “Tank” is basically a case you should be taking along should you be rock climbing or making a trip to Antarctic or some other extreme environment. And even if the case is not as protective as it claims to be, they still produced one helluva video to promote it.
GTA V – Official Trailer
by Taavi Kuisma on Nov.02, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
I guess this must be one of the biggest upcoming video game releases. Rockstar Games’ series which needs no introductions, Grand Theft Auto is gearing up for the launch of another installment. The GTA V looks pretty impressive at least from what we can see based on the trailer. Can’t wait to see more of the game. Awesome!
Lytro

Lytro’s the first thing that effectively changes photography for the first time since when there were the big-ass boxes on tripods and Jesse James and a cavalcade of others starred in a variety of shots all headlined “WANTED”.
LEGO Life of George
by Taavi Kuisma on Oct.22, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
It’s amazing how the modern technology combines the interactive applications and tangible products (toys, games etc.). The kids these days can combine a mobile gaming experience with toys such as LEGO to create something unique taking creativity to another level. Of course nay-Sayers and critics keep arguing that kids should not be mixed with gadgets, but I say it’s pretty awesome how the child’s playing experience can be further enhanced with an applciation that reacts to his/her LEGO creation for instance. A good example of such games is LEGO’s Life of George App in which players, “Follow George around the world as he challenges you to a series of fun building tasks. Build as fast as possible, capture your model with your iPhone/iPod camera and get scored on your building skills.” (LEGO) Pretty cool.
Siri
by Taavi Kuisma on Oct.05, 2011, under Headlines, Social Media & Advertising, Toys, Games and Gadgets
I’m not even gonna start on the new iPhone 4S. I was actually one of those who was expecting iPhone 5, although the evidence was very much against it. Well we still have to wait for the 5th generation iPhone for a while longer, but the phone does not look all that bad, which means I will probably opt for one as soon as they release the phone at my neck of the woods. One thing that has gotten as much if not more attention is the AI personal assistant called Siri. The audio controlled PA seems to work on another level from the voice controlled “applications” we’ve seen in the past. Voice control is nothing new, but Siri seems to bring us a step closer to the Sci-fi reality.
Disney AppMATes
by Taavi Kuisma on Sep.29, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
I remember back in the day I used to have my matchbox cars which I raced on the kitchen table, floor or cruised around this mat that had printed roads on it, you know jsut to have your own little city. Combine this with some LEGOs and damn, it was on like Donkey Kong. Back then Nintendo was a big deal, where as today’s youth is fully versed with digital goods and gadgets with many kids learning their A, B, Cs through an iPad. So what’s next for kids? Introducing Disney Cars 2 AppMates. Toy cars meet iPad.
