Sometimes you see ads that just leave you wondering, what the hell just happened? One such ad is the one for the BMW 1 Series M Coupé in which the vehicle takes on the world’s highest helipad. Having seen Maybach doing donuts on a parking lot I thought I had seen it all, but this one tops even that. I highly recommend watching this ad because it’s pretty damn awesome. I mean a car drifting on a helipad? Who would have thought? I just wonder how was the idea’s presentation? The creatives just sitting there telling the client, “so we were thinking of having the car drifting on a helipad, the world’s tallest helipad…” and the client just approving that. Who wouldn’t?

When I saw the intro text I thought to myself that this could be interesting. Mercedes-Benz campaign with visuals by Terry Richardson. Richardson has a pretty impressive background in photography and a creative approach I really admire. So when you combine his style, Mercedes concept car and model Jessica Stam, the end result should be interesting. However, this one does not quite deliver as one might expect.

Innovation is the key to success no matter what’s the industry. Also looking outside the borders of your everyday business is what differentiates one’s brand from the others. It’s great to see automotive brands focus on innovation on multiple levels, for instance Audi looking outside the automotive focus with concepts. Good example of this is the Audi Trimaran, a student project for the Audi concept design studio by designer Stefanie Behringer (Pforzheim Technical College, Germany). According to the designer herself, “The design is based on the Audi brand values of progressive, sporty and sophisticated.” I really like the futuristic, yet elegant look of the boat. You can see the brand inspiration across the design but it still stands out as a unique creation. Although it is just a concept (at this stage) it is definitely a cool concept for that matter.

It’s great to see brands paying homage to the “Golden Years” not just in fashion but in automotive industry as well. It’s not just the concept cars but also cars available for purchase that feature Vintage  looks combined with modern twist. One of the greatest concept cars I’ve seen in a minute is the BMW 328  that pays homage to the original car under this title. Although I have not been able to dig up specs from the car, the looks are already inspirational.

Cars are supposed to make us (drivers) feel safe and sound while making our way from A to B. Land Rover’s new ad cleverly plays on the notion of safety and how we should feel when sitting in a car. Not just that but the ad is pretty damn funny as well.

MINI is a cool, compact car but lacks the image associated with super cars and luxury cars like Maybach and Rolls Royce. Well obviously since it’s a MINI. However their latest concept inspired by Goodwood, done in collaboration Rolls-Royce Design Division, MINI is trying to capture the attention of those seeking that conspicuousness and comfort packed on four wheels. The name derives from the English town of Goodwood, which also hosts the particular Design Division.
