iPhone 4S Santa
by Taavi Kuisma on Dec.19, 2011, under Headlines, Social Media & Advertising, Toys, Games and Gadgets
I’m sure each and every (mostly) happy owner of an iPhone 4S has found a new friend with Siri. My Christmas arrived early as I got my 4S few days ago already. I’m pretty impressed with Siri and she seems to understand what I’m asking as well so it’s all good. I’m not here to go into too much detail on how much I appreciate my new phone, but it is a rather useful tool. Useful enough to be used by a man who has 3.7 billion new appointments and only one night to make sure no child is left without a present. I’m talking about Santa of course. We might not have much snow in Finland right now, but Christmas is more than just snow right? Like presents… Ho ho ho…
Protect your iPhone
by Taavi Kuisma on Nov.12, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Anyone whom has dropped their iPhone face first to pavement know that the damage usually results in acquisition of new phone or a very expensive fix as the glass pieces do cost a dollar or two. Fortunately there are number of protective cases out there, some better than the others. Seldom however are the cases made for military grade protection. Case mate are answering to the needs of those who need an iPhone 4 case that can take kicks, hits from hammer, golf club, baseball bat, sand or water. The “Tank” is basically a case you should be taking along should you be rock climbing or making a trip to Antarctic or some other extreme environment. And even if the case is not as protective as it claims to be, they still produced one helluva video to promote it.
LEGO Life of George
by Taavi Kuisma on Oct.22, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
It’s amazing how the modern technology combines the interactive applications and tangible products (toys, games etc.). The kids these days can combine a mobile gaming experience with toys such as LEGO to create something unique taking creativity to another level. Of course nay-Sayers and critics keep arguing that kids should not be mixed with gadgets, but I say it’s pretty awesome how the child’s playing experience can be further enhanced with an applciation that reacts to his/her LEGO creation for instance. A good example of such games is LEGO’s Life of George App in which players, “Follow George around the world as he challenges you to a series of fun building tasks. Build as fast as possible, capture your model with your iPhone/iPod camera and get scored on your building skills.” (LEGO) Pretty cool.
Siri

I’m not even gonna start on the new iPhone 4S. I was actually one of those who was expecting iPhone 5, although the evidence was very much against it. Well we still have to wait for the 5th generation iPhone for a while longer, but the phone does not look all that bad, which means I will probably opt for one as soon as they release the phone at my neck of the woods. One thing that has gotten as much if not more attention is the AI personal assistant called Siri. The audio controlled PA seems to work on another level from the voice controlled “applications” we’ve seen in the past. Voice control is nothing new, but Siri seems to bring us a step closer to the Sci-fi reality.
Disney AppMATes
by Taavi Kuisma on Sep.29, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
I remember back in the day I used to have my matchbox cars which I raced on the kitchen table, floor or cruised around this mat that had printed roads on it, you know jsut to have your own little city. Combine this with some LEGOs and damn, it was on like Donkey Kong. Back then Nintendo was a big deal, where as today’s youth is fully versed with digital goods and gadgets with many kids learning their A, B, Cs through an iPad. So what’s next for kids? Introducing Disney Cars 2 AppMates. Toy cars meet iPad.

Apple’s iOS 5 was expected to deliver and based on the keynote presentation from last night/this morning the new OS definitely seems to be stepping up a notch (again).

Wood

Wood, the precious renewable resource also makes a good design element. Whether it’s furniture, figures or other forms of design wood makes a pretty good material to work with. We’ve seen awesome iPad cases made of leather and synthetic materials but this one from Dutch Label Miniot is made of wood.
Thom Browne iPad Case
by Taavi Kuisma on Apr.02, 2011, under Accessories & Luggage, Fashion and style
Now I have to say this is probably the coolest iPad case I have seen in the recent history, if ever. New York fashion label Thom Browne has released an iPad case based on a classic briefcase. A true gentleman’s accessory might I say. The case is all leather and not only holds your iPad but other crucial accessories like pens, papers and name cards as well. Really awesome set.
Update from Japan
by Taavi Kuisma on Mar.14, 2011, under Headlines, News & Events
I don’t need to write in detail what’s going in Japan. I was on holiday this weekend when we saw the news on CNN. First thing I did of course was to check that all our friends in Japan are OK. Fortunately this indeed was the case. It was such a relieve to hear everyone was OK, aside from the shock. It will take time until everything in Japan gets back to normal and during this time there will be some delays in deliveries from Japan. Naturally the goal is that the shipments will be delivered as per usual, but it is very likely that there will be delays. Should you have any inquiries about this or about your order, please contact us and we’ll get back to you accordingly. Keep Japan in your thoughts and if you are wondering what can you do, there are many ways to help. One such way is by making a donation to Japan relief fund of Red Cross via Apple’s iTunes. As said, keep Japan in your thoughts and stay tuned for updates.
Collaborations
by Taavi Kuisma on Oct.26, 2010, under Accessories & Luggage, Fashion and style
Collaborations are the in-thing of today’s fashion scene. The collaborations give a chance for two brands to combine their best features with the best features of another brand. The collaborations might come in form of and Artist giving perspective to a brand’s classic style e.g. Takashi Murakami x Louis Vuitton. Other brands such as mastermind Japan have made art of the collaborations. They combine their mastermind touch with the other brand’s style while retaining the other brand’s characteristics. I just wonder, if mastermind Japan is really seizing their operations in 2013, who’s going to take over the collaboration scene? We need another master-brand that can turn even ordinary every-day items into coveted collectors’ items.
