Bape x Transformers
by Taavi Kuisma on Jul.28, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
One of my all time favorite toys has to be a Transformers action figure/truck from way back, like end of the 80′s or beginning of 90′s. The truck was awesome and transformed into a huge Optimus Prime and smaller version of him. You could also transform the set into a battle station. I mean this particular toy was just so great. Check out the pic below to know exactly what toy I mean.
KAWS x Hennessy
by Taavi Kuisma on Jul.26, 2011, under Comics, Design and Artwork, Entertainment, Headlines, Travel, Food & Drinks
This is pretty cool. A collaboration between iconic cognac brand Hennessy and artist Kaws. Few days back they held a special launch party at New York’s New Museum to celebrate the launch of a limited edition bottle designed by KAWS. I like the bottle art and it’s great to see these brands taking initiative to look outside the box and re-invent themselves with modern art. Good look Hennessy.
Captain America Collectible Figure
by Taavi Kuisma on Jun.22, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Being that the release of the Captain America: The First Avenger movie is just behind the corner it comes as no surprise that Hot Toys is also gearing up to release a collectible figure based on the Comic Book hero’s movie version. The authentic looks of the 1:6 figure and add ons like the iconic shield and an assault rifle (?) make this one hot toy. Damn, if these action figures were around when I was growing up. Maybe I need to get Maxwell one of the collectible figures, at least once he gets into the age when he learns how to appreciate action figures, he would be the coolest kid on the block (as if he wasn’t already). Nicely done Hot Toys!
Golden Skateboard
by Taavi Kuisma on Jun.05, 2011, under Comics, Design and Artwork, Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
I know folks who have collected (and still collect) skateboard decks. Where as these objects take a bit more space than baseball cards and probably won’t be purchased quite as often as other forms of collectibles the collectors are proud of their collection and often do their best to top off the already impressive collection they have at hand. But every collection needs a crown jewel, a piece that is so rare you can be sure you’re the only one with the piece. And although sometimes a classic piece of wood has more than just emotional value, this piece probably tops most of the decks out there. A golden skateboard deck.
coolrain x MINDstyle – NBA Collector Series 1
by Taavi Kuisma on Apr.18, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
This is probably like the third post on this particular collaboration but when something this cool comes along, it just needs to be shared. Needless to say I’m a big fan of the joint venture project between coolrain and MINDstyle, in association with the NBA of course. The NBA Collector Series 1 features a number of NBA players in a unique collectible figure form. It’s all in the details. I really hope to cop one of the figures on my desk. Probably won’t have the space for the entire collection but one should suffice. Check out pictures of the collection below and for more detailed pictures check out J.M.E.

Domestic disputes

Relationships always have their ups and downs but sometimes its the hobbies or interests of the other party that can really stir trouble in paradise. Of course it’s all about understanding but when the other party is obsessed enough with whatever his/her interest might be, it’s sure to cause a problem. One such issue could be collections. Whether it’s video games, action figures, jeans or T-shirts, everyone has their tolerance levels. One housewife just came to an end of her tolerance level with her husband’s action figure collection.
Mindstyle x Coolrain – NBA Collector Series
by Taavi Kuisma on Jan.29, 2011, under Headlines, Sports, Toys, Games and Gadgets
You might remember the awesome NBA figures/collectibles by MINDstyle and Coolrain? The other day I came across an awesome set of photos for the NBA Collector Series by these two toy/design houses. The figures themselves are just awesome, but when you combine great surrounding for the photoshoot you get something even better. At least the pictures made me smile.
Japanese Kaiju Doll
by Taavi Kuisma on Jan.07, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
This one’s the random post of the week. Something I came across with at J.M.E. today and could not resist sharing with all y’all. We all know Japan is famous for a number of just to say interesting toys and collectibles, not to mention movie Monsters like Gojira. Well, when you combine these two elements you get something like the Japanese Kaiju Doll BECKOS and TSUNOGON. I have to admit I have not even heard of these two fellas before but find the below ad and video clips hilarious. It seems that the girl in the ad likes TSUNOGON but I am not sure if she’s horrified or happy to meet BECKOS, whom surely seems to have the hots for the girl. Hmm, maybe I need to get Maxwell a BECKOS for birthday later this year? You know, just to replace the usual Batman action figures and such. Not that he’s old enough for action figures yet anyways. Still Wayto go BECKOS and TSUNOGON!
Daruma Dolls BAPE style
by Taavi Kuisma on Dec.28, 2010, under Comics, Design and Artwork, Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Tradition is important. With any culture there are those objects and aspects of tradition that carry on from one generation to another even without us paying any attention to these things. One of these traditional objects in the Japanese culture is the Daruma Doll. The Japanese “lucky charm” with a funny face has gotten a reboot by none other than BAPE.
