Mindstyle x Coolrain – NBA Collector Series
by Taavi Kuisma on Jan.29, 2011, under Headlines, Sports, Toys, Games and Gadgets
You might remember the awesome NBA figures/collectibles by MINDstyle and Coolrain? The other day I came across an awesome set of photos for the NBA Collector Series by these two toy/design houses. The figures themselves are just awesome, but when you combine great surrounding for the photoshoot you get something even better. At least the pictures made me smile.
Japanese Kaiju Doll
by Taavi Kuisma on Jan.07, 2011, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
This one’s the random post of the week. Something I came across with at J.M.E. today and could not resist sharing with all y’all. We all know Japan is famous for a number of just to say interesting toys and collectibles, not to mention movie Monsters like Gojira. Well, when you combine these two elements you get something like the Japanese Kaiju Doll BECKOS and TSUNOGON. I have to admit I have not even heard of these two fellas before but find the below ad and video clips hilarious. It seems that the girl in the ad likes TSUNOGON but I am not sure if she’s horrified or happy to meet BECKOS, whom surely seems to have the hots for the girl. Hmm, maybe I need to get Maxwell a BECKOS for birthday later this year? You know, just to replace the usual Batman action figures and such. Not that he’s old enough for action figures yet anyways. Still Wayto go BECKOS and TSUNOGON!
Daruma Dolls BAPE style
by Taavi Kuisma on Dec.28, 2010, under Comics, Design and Artwork, Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Tradition is important. With any culture there are those objects and aspects of tradition that carry on from one generation to another even without us paying any attention to these things. One of these traditional objects in the Japanese culture is the Daruma Doll. The Japanese “lucky charm” with a funny face has gotten a reboot by none other than BAPE.
UncleYork Spike Lee
by Taavi Kuisma on Dec.17, 2010, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
One of the greatest things I came across the websphere today is the new toy/figure coming from UncleYork. UncleYork has already produced a figure of photographer Terry Richardson and continues the line of cult persons turned “action figures”, this time with Spike Lee. The toy pays homage to the movie director and his achievements in a toy form. Good look if you ask me.
Kaws Companion – Distorted
by Taavi Kuisma on Dec.13, 2010, under Comics, Design and Artwork, Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Medicom has released pictures of a fresh and ready Kaws Companion “Robert Lazzarini” collaboration. The sculpture/figure comes in three versions, black, gray and brown. At first glance the figures look like a distorted image of Kaws originals but the figures themselves are actually distorted. The figures will be available at Original Fake Japan this week. These figures definitely get my approval and throw a nice twist on the figures we have seen in the past.
Trooper Babe
by Taavi Kuisma on Dec.08, 2010, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Although I’m not too familiar with Spencer Davis’ work I have seen some of his “Booty Babe” sculptures. The one that got me smiling last week was a sculpture I spotted at J.M.E. titled “Trooper Babe”. You guessed it, Spencer Davis has taken the the classic Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet and placed it on a Booty Babe.
Iron Man action figure with donuts
by Taavi Kuisma on Nov.06, 2010, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Collectible figures from movies such as Batman or Iron Man are usually cool already as they are, but it’s the more random figures like the Demon Batman that complete a great collection. Having a 1:6 Iron Man figure from hot toys is cool already, but what about hung-over Tony Stark in his Iron Man attire completed with not karate button but a box of donuts and stunner shades. Yes, a box of donuts.
Bearbricks for Christmas
by Taavi Kuisma on Oct.27, 2010, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Christmas is just around the corner, so have you started Christmas shopping already? Although for myself the holidays seem to be ages away as I have more timely things to think about, it is not stopping brands gearing up for the seasonal celebrations. If you need to get something cool but don’t want to spend your entire budget on a single present, a cool gift idea could be the Medicom Toys Be@rbrick x Dr. Romanelli collaboration with its Christmas themed release. The DRX-MAS figures which are currently available for pre-order include the Nutcracker and Jack Frost. I think only Santa Claus would scream X-Mas more than these two collectibles.
Toys or collectibles
by Taavi Kuisma on Sep.17, 2010, under Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Back in the day it was all about He-Man, Turtles and Transformers and I’m pretty sure that there are no 80′s babies who can watch this clip without getting good vibes.
