What’s good everyone?

Time is of the essence and I feel like I’ve been Running on Karma like Andy Lau. If that did not make any sense to you or yours, check out Running on Karma aka Mr. Big by Johnnie To, a Hong Kong movie from 2003. When I’m not busy running business (or Running on Karma) I do check out some random videos on YouTube. Who doesn’t right?

No suicidal potatoes today, but I did come across with something almost as good. Did you know Brad Pitt has done dozen of ads in Japan for Edwin, the denim brand? I sure as hell didn’t. Some of the ads are more or less in the random category and one in particular was almost creepy.

See what I mean?

Brad Pitt did at least one ad for Levis in the beginning of 90′s but just like majority of the Hollywood stars he has also done a fair deal of commercials in Japan. Lost in Translation anyone?

And a coffee drink ad…

I would love to be in the team creating these ads. I mean the thinking is on another level. Just look at these great ads below. Not denim ads but great nonetheless.

Dai-Jou-Bui!

That’s all for now stay tuned for more and no matter where you’re at, take care of you and yours. If you have a favorite Japanese ad, feel free to share it with us. Shout out on the Soap Box, comment on the post or drop us a line via email. It’s all good. Peace.

Greetings earthlings!

It’s been a superb day. Mainly due to some some better than great family matters that inspire me to write about toddler sized Air Jordans, but let’s save that for later. We’ve posted few advertising posts and since all of us at the NDH have at least some Advertising and Marketing background it makes sense that we keep writing about things dear to us. Other than denim and sneakers. Or better yet, combine all of these elements. Best of both worlds and so on.

First off something traditional. You know good looking people, gray-scale video, fresh clothing and your basic pop-rock music that fits the theme. Something that has that sex-appeal you associate with the brand.

Fair enough. But let’s take a turn to the other side. Let’s get back to the streets. I posted this video on our Facebook Page and possibly on our Soap Box as well. New extended ad from Adidas “The Street Where the Originality Lives”. The clip features quite a few celebrities and that “street theme” I personally like very much.

Still, although good it’s just an emotional ad that does its best to relate to YOUR lifestyle. But could you do more with an ad? How would you speak to a real sneaker head? The clip below might give you an idea.

It’s a sneaker thing…

That’s all folks. Life’s good on all fronts, hope it’s the same at your neck of the woods. Big up, stay safe and be easy. I’m out!

Hi Y’all,

It’s Friday night and what a day it has been. Full of positive energy, meetings, emails and more emails. Nothing out of the ordinary but a different day nonetheless.

Since the day has been rather different i felt like posting a lighter post to balance yesterday’s heavier dose of text. Remy started a new segment called denim advertising, in which we introduce denim ads from the past and present. I said that today’s post is light and I stand behind my words. The light also refers to the seriousness of the post as the below ad just cannot be taken seriously. I have seen some ish, but I rank this as worst denim ad ever.

What do you think? Is it bad or is it the worst? Let us know.

If for who knows what reason, you have encountered a worse denim ad please post the link and share it with us. This one just makes me laugh every time I see it. I mean what were they thinking? Maybe there is more behind this “brand” and its ads but this is like straight out of Saturday Night Live.

Stay tuned as we’ll be back with more stuff to share. Have a great weekend everyone! I’m out, peace…

Sex sells.

Indeed. What hasn’t it sold so far? Maybe horse plows for mormons, but that would be the proverbial exception to the rule. Continuing with the excellent topic of Tony’s about naked girls, here’s something related from the wonderful world of denim advertising.

There’s been two new advertising campaigns by Diesel for the winter/spring seasons of 2010. This is the better (forget the other, it’s just stupid).

Then again, we all knew that sex sells. It’s not yesterday’s news, it’s not even last week’s news. Even neanderthals always went for the best looking cavegirl or -man. Which then begs the question: are we supposed to appreciate this not-even-slightly disguised insinuation that our buying behaviour stems from pre-historic times and we are little better than our trogdolytic forebears?

Sure we are. How can we even begin to deny the basest of our impulses? We can’t.

Yet, what bums me out a bit, is that the Diesel ad above says that sex sells, but does little else. Puma did it a whole lot better a couple of years ago. Sure, officially Puma claims that this is not theirs, but I genuinely doubt it. Whatever the case may be, personally I think this is brilliant. Forget subliminal messages, double entendres and puns and go straight for it!

“It” being the clever straightforward advert of course. Ahem.

Image courtesy of Ads of the World.

So what do you guys think? Does sex in advertising products get you excited, erect(81) even? Or do you do what we promote here at NDH and put the sex into sex appeal.

Whatever you do, remember to be safe.
