Japanese Graphic Design from the ’20s and ’30s
by Taavi Kuisma on Feb.20, 2011, under Comics, Design and Artwork, Headlines
Sometimes it’s refreshing for any designer to take a look back at old design works done in the past. Pieces not affected by the societies and circumstances around which we live today, but art from different times. One of the coolest things I came across via a creative friend of mine is a blog post featuring Japanese Graphic Design from the ’20s and ’30s. The pieces are just amazing and showcase a new type of creativity from a country going through dramatic societal and industrial changes. “This collection of 50 posters, magazine covers and advertisements offer a glimpse at some of the prevailing tendencies in a society transformed by the growth of modern industry and technology, the popularity of Western art and culture, and the emergence of leftist political thought.” (Pink Tentacle)
