We’ve spoken the conspicuous consumption of kiddie goods before, and since our daily life is all about those little choices of what’s the best thing for our son, here is another conspicuous consumption post focusing on kids’ goods. Not that we’re all that conspicuous consumers when it comes to Maxwell, the boy’s happy in his mesh tank tops and diapers so we haven’t really even thought of hitting the Gucci store for some kids’ clothes. Of course there are some exceptions that include nice pants, hats and cute little baby sneakers, but nothing really crazy.

When in Gucci store (browsing) I do pay attention to the kids’ department, which hosts some pretty ludicrous stuff. I mean we all want the best for our children, but these stores have all the elements to create a little mini-me of your boy or girl. The latest promotional video for Gucci Children is pretty damn cute I have to say, but what really got me curious was the huge Gucci teddy bear. Are those things for sale?

This is what Maxwell thought of the video:

You know I’m a fan of artisan products and stories behind the goods. Recently I came across a cool picture from Gucci, showing a group of artisans from the 40s’ producing the brand’s products at Gucci’s Florentine workshop. I like the style of the picture, I mean it shows the hand made approach of the brand ever-so-nicely. Gucci’s one of those brands that kind of shares opinions (like every brand) but personally I have been very happy with my belt and if the belt can take the wear and tear it’s put through for another year, I will most likely acquire another one in the future. I hope Gucci will post more pictures such as these in the future as these attract me much more than the fashion show pics they normally publish on weekly basis.

Ever since Kanye’s internship with Louis Vuitton, the luxury brands have pretty much embraced the hip hop connection. And who could blame them, the artists keep flaunting their Gucci belts and Louis Vuitton bags in each and every video. With the growing demand and changing fashio ntides the brands also need to adapt to the environment the best way they can. Good examples include the Louis Vuitton kicks designed (or at least co-designed) by Kanye West as well as more recent examples such as Gucci’s Leather Bomber Jacket made exclusively in celebration of Jay Z’s book Decoded. A page of a book is printed on the jacket’s lining and the jacket is part of a “clue hunting” launched in association with the book release.

The jacket is designed by Frida Giannini, whose other recent works include the special edition watch and jewelry collection released in partnership with The Recording Academy who hosts the renowned Grammy Awards. The interesting thing about the release is that this one is Gucci’s first ever digital time piece. A modern touch but still does not sacrifice the luxurious approach the brand is known for. I think the biggest change has been the fact that the music industry has embraced fashion as an important element and the artists (or at least most of them) have switched from the über baggy clothes to more stylish alternatives, such as Gucci’s ready to wear pieces.

Pictures via Gucci Facebook.

It’s great to see these types of brands evolve and produce more and more innovative pieces while still retaining the original artisan approach. I’m sure we’ll see much more of such interesting collaborations/releases and as these emerge, we’ll keep you posted.

I have kept the radio silence throughout the weekend just spending time with the family. Nonetheless, I am back on the blog. As if I ever left…

So, I have been boasting about the luxury brands’ new pro-digital approach and Gucci seems to be taking this modern touch to a new level. We all know Gucci has just to say decent sunglasses and specs but what could possibly be missing? Don’t you hate it when you’re going to cinema to watch a 3D movie and you are forced to put on those god-awful 3D glasses that never fit right, are horrible to wear if you need to wear glasses and just look bad. It is important to look good even in a cinema right? So what if you could wear your stunner shades to cinema too? Gucci has an answer to this. Gucci 3D glasses released in December priced at $225 at Gucci US stores.

The plastic glasses feature, “optically correct 6-base curved lenses with circular polarized technology.” This is apparently optimal for Real D, the system used in most of the movie theaters (at least in the States). The 3D Gucci glasses also feature a multi-layered mirrored coating which allows the wearer to view themselves in a mirror without distortion. So you can step outside the cinema to check your looks without distorted image of yourself. As per my understanding these shades don’e really work as sunglasses, which is a bummer as if they did, it would be an even bigger hit. I would get a pair directly.

What this shows is that Gucci is looking into the younger tech savvy target market (nerds like us) in addition to the old fashioned traditional fashionistas. A cool move by the fashion house and at least now you can watch the new 3D releases in style.

“Gucci and Riva, in collaboration with Officina Italiana Design, the design company which created the original Aquariva in 2000, are proud to unveil the exclusive made to order “Aquariva by Gucci”, a model customized by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini. This initiative will be one of the activities marking Gucci’s 90th anniversary year in 2011.” (Gucciofficial)

The boat looks superb, a hand crafted example of artisan spirit. I mean boat like this alone is awesome but to see the hand made quality mixed with Gucci’s design aesthetics makes this boat one of a kind. Yacht Club anyone?

I mentioned our stop at the Gucci store in Copenhagen in my post CPH Copper Label update, and as much as I dislike repeating myself I need to make an exception in this case. I do occasionally visit these boutiques to check the selection and to observe the staff’s service attitude. As mentioned in the past, I was positively surprised about the service centered approach. So much that I exchanged my money to a particular belt they had in the store, that just happened to be my size. Or to be frank it was my wife who bought the belt as my birthday present.

As a fan of artisan products I do like to observe the craftsmanship of the belt and other similar products just to compare the products to similar ones and “learn” what makes the products special. Naturally it’s all about the materials and the hand made craftsmanship needed to produce the product. The approach to the luggage and belts is very similar to the denim we work with, it’s all about the details.

One thing I appreciate is that since you know the belt is a present, you wrap it in a nice bag/box with a ribbon in addition to the traditional Gucci tote and bag.

It’s these details that makes the difference. I mean when someone spends significant amount of money to an item, they are not just paying for the product itself but for the experience as well. Something we have based our whole business on. We don’t just ship people jeans and shirts, we provide service and ensure the product experience is same as if one would visit a boutique with good service and product knowledge.

Of course it’s also about the looks of the product and how that fits you. My wife first insisted on getting me a black belt with the Gucci imprints, but I stayed adamant about getting the belt with the traditional Gucci Red and Green with a silver hardware.

The reason, I thought it looked even better on me. Maybe I’m just conspicuous. Nevertheless, afterwards, my wife actually agreed that this choice was even better as it fitted my appearance and the jeans I am wearing. I wholeheartedly agree.

I like the toughness of the belt and I have no doubt the belt will last with me for years to come (hopefully longer than my previous belts). The tough leather ensures long life and I would imagine the belt will look even better with some wear as now it’s still pretty much in pristine condition.

Like all products with limited production quantities, the belts too have serial numbers that also ensure authenticity. What makes this belt somewhat “special” is that Gucci has changed to lighter leather for the upcoming seasons (or so I was told). The store actually had both the new style and the old style which I ended up getting. Although I like the new lighter back of the belt, I thin the dark back will show less denim blue that the lighter one would. Not that it would necessarily be a bad thing. Let’s see, maybe I will end up getting another one some time from here, who knows?

Nonetheless, the belt stays with me like the Copper Label jeans and I think they make a good couple, dynamic duo if I might say so myself. The only bad thing about getting something like this is that once you have one belt like this, you immediately start thinking about the next one.

Lucky I don’t have to worry about such matters for a while though, the baby makes sure of that. It’s all good although it seems that winter is making its way to Finland. Let’s see if we get snow as early as in October. Dig up the warm jackets and enjoy the cool breeze. I’m out, Peace.

So Gucci Guilty’s ad courtesy of Frank Miller has gotten its fair share of online limelight, and now we have the director’s cut not just in HD but also viewable in 3D. Gucci has started promoting the clips on the social media channels and the word seems to be spreading pretty fast. You will still need a pair of 3D glasses but I would imagine the clip will look even better in 3D.

For those getting a headache from watching the clip with or without 3D glasses there is also the normal version which doesn’t look half bad either.

You can also check a behind the scenes clip with Frank Miller’s interview.

Really liking the approach Gucci is taking with this campaign and it will be interesting to see which high fashion companies will follow in the lead. Dior’s clip with Jude Law in it. Looking good, the world of fashion has awakened to the dawn of the digital era. So what’s your view? Does high fashion belong in the boutiques or online? I think it’s a matter of serving clientele on both fronts. Stay tuned for more. I’m out, peace!

I thought of combining the past two weeks of my Momotaro Jeans Copper Label journey into one big post full of pics from the past weeks, mostly from Copenhagen since after we came back to Finland I have not had a chance to take any proper pics of the jeans. Also I think the best pics were taken last week. Real life pics that really show the jeans in their current state in action also compared to other wear and tear projects and new jeans. It’s also a nice little summary of our trip to the awesome city of Copenhagen. So I guess it’s best to start from the beginning.

Airport is pretty awesome place for work. I can’t even imagine spending time on the airport without all of today’s conveniences. All you need is that wifi connection and you’re good to go. Very productive 1,5 hours might I say!

I left my mark on the cafe chair too!

It’s always exciting to arrive in a new spot and finding your way around the city to the place where you got to be. I always prefer to walk whenever this was possible. This picture was taken on one of those less rainy days as most of the time it was just pouring rain day in day out.

This is where we spent most of our time in CPH. The venue at Gallery International Fashion Fair.

The entire time I was surrounded by different wear and tear projects from different individuals.

The winner is definitely this Going to Battle Label pair of Momotaro Jeans.

Although I don’t think my current project is far behind. Catching up on that particular pair real fast!

It’s always awesome to do some comparison to a fresh pair of jeans from the same label. You might think the jeans you’ve been wearing have not faded at all but the difference is there.

As mentioned most of the time was spent on the fair venue, but we had booked late flights on Sunday so we had some time to spend in the city roaming around. One of the main attractions we just had to visit was the Carlsberg factory, I mean it was something else. I seldom attend any of these tourist type of things, but I was happy we went there. The clouds looked pretty gloomy in the morning, although there was no rain it was very hot and humid everywhere.

Not sure what’s the story behind the Elephants at the gate? if you know, please share it with us too.

Apparently they have the biggest collection of beer bottles in the world.

It was awesome that it wasn’t raining at all on our last day as we got to spend at least little bit of time outside without the fear of getting soaked.

Most of the afternoon we spent roaming around the city embracing the Sunday’s buzz and the end of the CPH Fashion Week. Plenty of tourists all over the place and very vibrant environment. I liked it a lot. Last time we barely had any time to observe CPH and life within the city streets. I really like the fact that people bring their kids outside to eat, shop and spend time instead of just leaving them at home. Kids no matter what’s their age are part of the daily life. People are also very happy in comparison to the constant frowning you come across in Helsinki. I kid you not, most of the time people look like they get paid for frowning.

I also liked the boutiques in CPH, the Gucci store had very nice inviting atmosphere and the staff there were friendly and helpful. You see this is something I do in every city, I visit the boutiques to check the surrounding and the service (or the quality of service). You can learn so much by visiting these stores. It’s quite sad that majority of higher end boutiques feature ice cold staff that scan you the very moment you walk in and based on whether you meet their liking either give you assistance, neglect you or ask you to leave. Oh yeah, I have seen that. What most of these people don’t understand is that quite often it is the guy with relaxed outfit and casual looks that has the buying power instead of the people all dressed up to the occasion. Hey I know “I look so stylish, these people must have mistook me for my stylist” as Kanye said it but I’m sure you got the point. The service you get often decides whether you will leave your money with them or take it to another boutique or store.

There’s always a bigger fish, or a bigger dude. Although this one’s only a statue the guy was definitely much taller than me and I’m a big dude.

So, we had great time in CPH, and I really recommend this city to anyone looking for an urban holiday. I am sure we will be back to this city once again, let’s just see when. Life’s good, life’s beautiful so let’s not let small bumps on the road slow us down. The jeans are still intact and will get another well deserved wash next week, but until then I’m out. Copenhagen We Love You. Peace!

I guess we can call this high fashion Friday since the second post of the day is about Gucci following one on Louis Vuitton. Interesting enough this is already a second pretty cool online ad campaign from a fashion brand I have seen today. The Gucci Guilty ad which will be shown in total during the MTV Video Music Awards in September. What makes this clip interesting is that it’s by the legendary Frank Miller, yes the Frank Miller. Gucci has brought the campaign on Facebook and created some viral buzz on Youtube as well. All I have to show is the trailer, which looks pretty nice and features Evan Rachel Wood and Chris “Captain America” Evans.
