Momotaro Jeans 2012 Year of the Dragon Calendar and Daruma Doll
by Taavi Kuisma on Nov.29, 2011, under Culture, Headlines, Toys, Games and Gadgets
Good fortune for the year 2012. That could have been the title of this post as well. The title is pretty much self explanatory with regards to the content. We just received a batch of Japan Blue Momotaro Jeans Year of the Dragon Calendars for the year 2012. Next year is indeed the Year of the Dragon and this has activated plenty of families around us in an effort to actually get a Dragon Year baby. I know, I know but it is an extremely auspicious year and if I am not mistaken, next year will be the year of the golden dragon which comes along even more seldom.

Momotaro by Japan Blue

I’m sure by now most of you have seen the interview of Masahiro Suwaki, the Vice President of the Japan Blue Group. In his interview, he stated something that tells a lot about the global denim culture and trend as a whole. “It is disappointing, but the population of people who truly understand denim are on the decline in Japan. This I feel is especially true for people who like fashion than the “average” person.” This does not only apply to Japan but it’s a worldwide phenomenon. The classic denim labels feel the pressure to adjust to the global demand and to people asking “why would I spend 300$ on a pair of jeans when I can buy a pair of this brand for half of that price?” It’s a fair question but kin of highlights the issue, where price and style often go before tradition (and in some cases quality). Momotaro Jeans, a brand under Rampuya and Japan Blue Group is no different from any other brand. They have goals to reach and the Momotaro Jeans brand, established in 2006 also needs to reach certain numbers not just in Japan but worldwide.

Ever since I was told about Japan Blue brand by my friends at Momotaro Jeans I was curious to get more details and see the apparel in person. My chance came at the Gallery CPH where we represented both brand introducing the Japan Blue to the audience in Copenhagen. The brand was premiered in Bread and Butter and I wrote a little something about it already back then. That was just the tip of the iceberg I might say and after spending almost 4 days around these garments and talking to the brands reps about the concept and it’s qualities I feel I can write a little review about the brand. Real talk, no favoritism no glitz no glamour.
Japan Blue Adventure Boots

As mentioned Japan Blue is an experimental brand that wants to come up with new concepts and produce products that can be universally appreciated and adopted into folks’ everyday life. One of the most interesting things I have seen from the brand has been the Hand Dyed Indigo Adventure Boots or Adventure Blue Boots as they are also referred to.

We’re back to Helsinki! Our Copenhagen trip was really awesome but it’s also good to be back. The amount of work waiting for you is always surprising especially since I was working all the time while in CPH. Although my focus was on Momotaro Jeans we also learned a lot about the new brand from Collect Co called Japan Blue.
Gallery CPH – Day III

Day three of the Gallery International Fashion Fair is over! We have packed out bags and boxes leaving our beloved stand empty as it was before we came to Copenhagen. You always get that funny feeling when you’re packing away all the cool stuff you were surrounded with over the past few days.
Gallery CPH – Day II

The day two of the Gallery CPH started off nicely with a pretty damn good breakfast as always. Last night was a late night with plenty of work to do after the Fair. We actually had a chance to go and watch The Expendables, but were too tired and busy for such luxuries. However once you got to the venue it was all business once again. We met some familiar faces in the morning and got a nice kickstart for the day. This however did not last too long.
