The world of denim is full of myths. Some crazy, some just idiotic, and some just unhealthy. But some are just based on confusion. One popular topic of conversation is of the Japanese taking US selvedge looms to make superior denim. The guys from The Crosby Press spoke to Rising Sun’s Mike Hodis as well as continues the conversations started in the first episode with Kiya Babzani and Andrew Chen. The video also features Phil Goetz of the Cone Mills who boasts decades of denim experience. Check out the video that sheds light on the big question, “did Japan’s denim companies snatch up the United State’s shuttle looms to build superior selvedge?” Via The Crosby Press

Naked & Famous Denim brand continues its number of mega collaborations, this time teaming up with another Japanese denim icon, Oni. Oni which means demon in Japanese is a cult brand with a capital C. Much of the brand is shrouded in mystery to the outsiders and even though the owner of the brand shuns the limelight, the brand has gotten a good reputation among the denim enthusiasts. In this collaboration Naked & Famous uses a rare “super slubby and irregular” denim that won’t leave anyone cold.
So how do the Strike Gold jeans fit? We’ve gotten some questions on the measurements, sizing and fitting of the jeans and being that our working relationship with Strike Gold Denim has only started, we rely on the expertise of our friends in Japan for the measurements and sizing.
We’ve posted our fair share of Momotaro (Peach Boy) related “stories” but what about Oni. Oni being the demon Momotaro set out to battle. Oni is not just a character from the Japanese folklore but it also happens to be a cult denim brand from Japan available only in selected locations across the world. So why the sudden interest in the demon (Oni). Well our friends from Naked & Famous Denim have teamed up with the cult brand to bring you and yours an exclusive collaboration simply titled Naked & Famous x Oni.
We have gotten a privileged opportunity to introduce yet another great Japanese denim brand to the Nordic Denim House catalog. This time we could be striking gold with a brand established back in 2006 named aptly, Strike Gold.
I’m sure by now most of you have seen the interview of Masahiro Suwaki, the Vice President of the Japan Blue Group. In his interview, he stated something that tells a lot about the global denim culture and trend as a whole. “It is disappointing, but the population of people who truly understand denim are on the decline in Japan. This I feel is especially true for people who like fashion than the “average” person.” This does not only apply to Japan but it’s a worldwide phenomenon. The classic denim labels feel the pressure to adjust to the global demand and to people asking “why would I spend 300$ on a pair of jeans when I can buy a pair of this brand for half of that price?” It’s a fair question but kin of highlights the issue, where price and style often go before tradition (and in some cases quality). Momotaro Jeans, a brand under Rampuya and Japan Blue Group is no different from any other brand. They have goals to reach and the Momotaro Jeans brand, established in 2006 also needs to reach certain numbers not just in Japan but worldwide.
We’re doing our best to advocate the quality of Momotaro Jeans and it’s great to see others posting Momotaro Jeans related material across the web. The latest discovery is this great video found from Japan In Motion titled Jeans “Momo Tarō” of series NOLIFE Saison 3. Awesome introduction to Momotaro Jeans, Kojima and Japanese Denim altogether. The video is in Japanese with French subtitles but even if you don’t know Japanese or French the video is worth a watch. Plenty of well worn Momotaro Jeans, custom jeans, denim production process and nice interviews. Enjoy!
As promised, I have added the fresh batch of Naked & Famous Denim on the site. Following the Momotaro Jeans x Naked & Famous collaboration, we’ve brought in two classic styles from the Canadian denim label. The Naked & Famous Skinny Guy and Weird Guy cuts provide nice alternatives to those looking for modern cuts combined with high quality Japanese Denim. I am sure these two styles are not the last ones we bring in from the brand, but for the moment we have these babies in selected sizes and numbers. Seems that the Indigo Skinny Guy Broken Twill Selvedge Jeans are the popular ones as we are running low on the jeans even before we got them on the site. Nonetheless, you can find introduction to the new styles below and if you have any inquiries on these jeans or any other Naked & Famous style, feel free to contact us and we’ll do our best to get you the jeans you are looking for.
We’ve had the privilege of working with the fine folks from Canada for a good time now, bringing in just to mention the Naked & Famous x Momotaro Jeans collaboration. I have however not mentioned much about the label or what they represent. So it’s about damn time for a small brand profile.
