adiZero Crazy Light – Nike meets Chainsaw
by Taavi Kuisma on May.26, 2011, under Headlines, Kicks, Social Media & Advertising
Chopping a competing sneaker to prove a point was not enough for Adidas. They decided to chop another Nike kick to make it Crazy Light. This time with a chainsaw…
Crazy Light
by Taavi Kuisma on May.25, 2011, under Headlines, Kicks, Social Media & Advertising
It’s always nice to compare features of a product to a competing brand for instance. You can do that in many ways but seldom the comparison is direct and happens in a video ad. Adidas in their promotion of the new 9.8 oz AdiZero Crazy Light blow a direct hit at a very significant competitor. While the short clip does have some wow effect in it, it also raised a question; “are they allowed to do that?” Still the clip is pretty funny and I recommend paying attention to the disclaimers on the bottom, kind of adds insult to the injury.

Video after the jump.

Sole Mates – It’s the shoes
by Taavi Kuisma on May.21, 2011, under Entertainment, Headlines, Kicks
What makes Playmates the hottest women in the Universe? Is it the shoes? These are the questions Playboy is asking in their latest venture “Sole Mates” with this popular men’s magazine “ranking the top 23 Air Jordans of all time in a feature starring Playmates Francesca Frigo, Jaime Edmondson, Jessica Burciaga, Patrice Hollis, Hiromi Oshima, Tiffany Taylor, Candice Cassidy, Kimberly Phillips and Heather Rae Young.”
The ad for the “campaign” has Miss August 2010 Francesca Frigo putting a “Playboy spin on the classic Nike commercial starring Mars Blackmon and Michael Jordan.”
Slam Dunk and Premium Denim
by Taavi Kuisma on Apr.22, 2011, under Headlines, Kicks
As the title indicates today we’ll be talking about Slam Dunk, the Manga and Anime that at least I was watching back in the day on pretty much daily basis. Cool story (about basketball, friendship and all that) great characters and of course Takehiko Inoue’s signature comic style ensured the series a huge following worldwide. Nike has teamed up with Inoue for a limited edition sneaker that at least caught my attention, the Takehiko Inoue x Slam Dunk x Nike Air Zoom Brave IV.
Cool kicks and a gas mask
by Taavi Kuisma on Apr.17, 2011, under Comics, Design and Artwork, Headlines, Kicks
Right so when you cop a pair of new Jordans, the first thing is either to put them next to the other cool sneakers on your shelf or put them on and just enjoy the feeling of new shoes. Nothing like the new shoe smell by the way. Only topped by the new car smell I suppose. But for some, they have more sinister plans for the shoes, or perhaps I should say artistic ones. Artist Freehand Profit sure had other plans for a pair of Air Jordans when he created this custom gas mask.
Fresh Air

Nike has been bringing out variety of great ads and Foot Locker is known for nice sneaker ads. What’s better than Footlocker or Nike ad is of course a collaboration between these two. Add in Cool Kids, Amar’e Stoudemire, DeSean Jackson and Chris Bosh, not to mention fresh kicks and you get a catchy little ad. When was the last time you copped some “Fresh Air”?
Seinfeld’s sneakers
by Taavi Kuisma on Apr.06, 2011, under Entertainment, Headlines, Kicks
I watched Seinfeld pretty much the entire time it was playing in Finland back in the day. Funny series with funny people. One thing I never really paid that much attention to was how awesome Seinfeld’s sneaker game was. I remember he wore different kicks all the time, but Complex actually had put together a complete guide to Mr. Seinfeld’s kicks. I never realized he actually wore such a variety. Kudos to Jerry, a true Sneaker Head. Seriously cool stuff.
Camouflage Air Force 1
by Taavi Kuisma on Mar.10, 2011, under Headlines, Kicks
ATF Crew, DJ Clark Kent, Mayor and All Day is known for their impressive sneaker arsenals and we have shared quite a few of DJ Clark Kent’s Nike collaborations along our journey. Today’s kick pick is All Day’s Air Force Bespoke sneaker featuring Gore -Tex upper in camouflage details. Camouflage is just one of those patterns which you either love or hate. Personally I think it works very well with certain styles, especially with kicks. This particular design gets thumbs up from me, the white and orange details mixed with the camouflage and olive green swoosh logo and of course ATF logo. It’s all in the details and I am a big fan of the white design especially. Not sure about the availability of these kicks, but if I would come across these kicks in my size I would have to get them. Actually I have been trying to find a good looking pair of camouflage sneakers for a while, but every design I find usually has one or two details that bug me and so I end up leaving the kicks on the shelf. It is what it is I suppose.

The time has come, All-Star Weekend is here and so is the premiere of the Black Mamba, a film by Robert Rodriguez. The last two trailers have promised a lot with stellar cast of Kobe Bryant, Bruce Willis, Danny Trejo and Kanye West this film should be one of the biggest Nike ads in history. Along the past few days Nike has released pics and teasers of the film which is now live. Watch the film after the jump!
