MANta Claus and the WTF Effect

by on Dec.06, 2011, under Entertainment, Headlines, Social Media & Advertising

More and more ads out there are making use of an unwritten force, a fact that people cannot deny, but what somehow still remains underestimated in terms of its effect. I’m talking about WTF effect of course. WTF effect is something, anyone spending more than an hour on social media has most likely come across in some form of share, linking etc. WTF effect is that little something that turns an ordinary ad into something powerful, awesome and superior to the safe, nutless ads the companies are usually spending their marketing budgets on. But why is this effect called the WTF effect? Well simple enough, when you see an ad like this:

you can’t help but to say (usually out loud) “what the fuck?” Pardon my French, but there is only one way to say WTF. Some of the industry insiders and old-heads are calling this experimental advertising, but I truly believe that there is more than just experimental ads behind the success of campaigns such as those for Old Spice.

Komodo

by on Feb.20, 2011, under Headlines, Social Media & Advertising

What’s Komodo, other than the home “a desert isle populated with poisonous ten-foot lizard beasts?” It just happens to be a freshening balm from Old spice, or that’s how they call it at least. The latest Old Spice ad continues on the path of insanity, not only seeking answer to the question on whether or not the Old Spice Guy can take you to the freshness of distant cultures? I’m sure he can, but more importantly the ad features a tamed Komodo Dragon, that’s actually a Komodo Dragon Fridge containing ice cream. Enough said.

Old Spice Guy is Back!

by on Jan.26, 2011, under Entertainment, Headlines, Social Media & Advertising

“Hello Ladies! As well as men, mammal beasts and the mighty sequoias of the redwood forests, I have returned.” Exclaimed the Old Spice Guy Isaiah Mustafa as he made his triumphant return on the digital waves just a second ago. Indeed he is back. Better than ever, who knows? But his return might be greater than that of Superman few years back. It will be interesting to see how Old Spice brings back the beloved face of the body wash brand. He promises new ads which is definitely nice as the previous ones were pretty damn awesome. Awesome enough to buy a bottle of Old Spice body wash. Did anyone keep count of how long they kept him away? One thing is for sure, Old Spice is bound to get helluva lot more hits, likes, retweets and all sorts of sharing delights across the web. Now look at me, back at your man, now back to me… I’m on a horse.

Hero your hero could smell like

by on Sep.30, 2010, under Comics, Design and Artwork, Headlines, Social Media & Advertising

Old Spice (or the agency behind its highly successful campaign) has done something right, considering Isaiah Mustafa, the Old Spice guy is being propelled to big screen roles and everywhere you go people are talking about the man your man could smell like. Speaking of Old Spice, the most random video I’ve seen today is by Marvel. MSH: What The –?! series took this real life superstar and brought him into the world of Marvel’s MSH: What The..?! with Mustafa taking the role of none other than Powerman Luke Cage. Pretty funny stuff. The clip is defo in the random category but funny nonetheless. I’m on a horse…

Old Spice – The Saga continues

by on Aug.03, 2010, under Headlines, Social Media & Advertising

So We’ve seen the campaign, heard the results, and shared these ads without friends and family (not to mention colleagues). The campaign did increase the Old Spice sales by what was it 107 %? And the statistics speak for themselves. Probably the campaign of the decade and now it’s over, or is it? What else could you possibly do with this crazy ad campaign to create even more buzz?

Film news rustled up

by on Jul.17, 2010, under Entertainment, Headlines

It is time for a farewell.

It was a good run, but even all Great Things must eventually come to an end. The Old Spice Guy and his videos that led the internet community on a merry trip into the land of Awesome Viral Advertising has now come to a close. It was a glorious time. A time to be remembered and cherished. A time to reminisce when our joints are creaking and we’re called ancient rather than old. It was the magical time of the Old Spice Guy. Far better this choice too than milk it for all it’s worth.
