I know folks who have collected (and still collect) skateboard decks. Where as these objects take a bit more space than baseball cards and probably won’t be purchased quite as often as other forms of collectibles the collectors are proud of their collection and often do their best to top off the already impressive collection they have at hand. But every collection needs a crown jewel, a piece that is so rare you can be sure you’re the only one with the piece. And although sometimes a classic piece of wood has more than just emotional value, this piece probably tops most of the decks out there. A golden skateboard deck.

As we’re getting our “first snow” in Finland a lot of people start to complain about the weather and the lack of outside activities caused by the climate. Personally I appreciate the seasonal changes. The only thing I hope is that the winter waits for another week as my winter tires are in my hometown and I do not want to drive there on slicks in this weather. But while folks continue to complain about small things it’s healthy to look at the big picture and appreciate the things around us. Roof on your head, food on your table, not to mention broadband connection, game consoles and smart-phones. Although we all know people in some places on earth do not enjoy life like ours, some things till unify the youth and give them hope. Things like skateboarding for instance.

Although the title might indicate a new hobby in ornithology, we’re not stalking birds. The Bird is the Word is a title for the Nike SB European Demo Tour of which Nike has just released a video titled Street Life. The campaign site also has another clip called Demo Life. The videos are full of what you might expect, some of the best skateboarders in the world doing what they do best, skate. As the title indicates, most of the skating action takes place on the street level among us mere mortals. I like the WTF approach Nike has taken with the tour’s title at least. The campaign is getting some buzz around the web and Nike SB delivers what we expect from them, fresh gear and good skateboarding action. What’s good?

The heat seems to be an on-going issue across the Europe. I’m still not complaining although the public transportation is something you might want to avoid during this weather. Non-working AC and plenty of people packed into a bus, train or a tram means sauna-like feeling and temperatures. At the same time rainfalls are causing problems on the other side of the world. Damn. Well the weather seems to be changing here as well, clouds are gathering and the forecast is that we’re going to experience thunder storms soon. Nice. Hot summer days especially if you’re on holiday can result in plenty of spare time, time you can effectively use to contemplate on what has been going on lately and what you might want to do in the near or distant future.
