Friday morning. Time of inspiration, hope and in some cases drama. What every Friday morning needs is a bit of POWER! That POWER today comes in form of Old Spice and Toyota. Well done both, today shall be a good day.

MANta Claus and the WTF Effect
by Taavi Kuisma on Dec.06, 2011, under Entertainment, Headlines, Social Media & Advertising
More and more ads out there are making use of an unwritten force, a fact that people cannot deny, but what somehow still remains underestimated in terms of its effect. I’m talking about WTF effect of course. WTF effect is something, anyone spending more than an hour on social media has most likely come across in some form of share, linking etc. WTF effect is that little something that turns an ordinary ad into something powerful, awesome and superior to the safe, nutless ads the companies are usually spending their marketing budgets on. But why is this effect called the WTF effect? Well simple enough, when you see an ad like this:
you can’t help but to say (usually out loud) “what the fuck?” Pardon my French, but there is only one way to say WTF. Some of the industry insiders and old-heads are calling this experimental advertising, but I truly believe that there is more than just experimental ads behind the success of campaigns such as those for Old Spice.

Exactly. Another example of Old Spice’s awesome powers. Exactly why this is my choice of soap as well. As Old Spice put it, “the scents of Old Spice turn embarrassingly normal guys into face model champions who smell like adventure and fine cutlery. So douse your body regions with the scents of Old Spice and “Smell Better Than Yourself.”" Needless to say more…
World Gone Sour
by Taavi Kuisma on Oct.05, 2011, under Entertainment, Headlines, Social Media & Advertising, Travel, Food & Drinks
Man, on days like these you just want to sit back, relax, watch a good movie and maybe clear a bag of candy. Candy like Sour Patch Kids. I have to admit I have not come across ads for Sour Patch Kids before, maybe because the candy is not that big (or not available) in Finland. However, today I came across a particular video by none other than Method Man promoting the brand and the on-going World Gone Sour campaign. I can’t even hate, and those feeling like hating, don’t. Method Man is doing his thing, even when rhyming about candy. You be the judge but this ad got me checking the rest of the stuff the brand has been doing and it’s not all that bad.
Social Media Cycles

So who’s on Ping? I only got myself enrolled to the latest social media network courtesy of Apple. I am still just getting around Ping and its musical world of wonders. Not that I’m a rookie to iTunes or anything but I’m still just getting around the whole functionality and actual usage of the service. The other thing is that I’ve only managed to find one of my friends from the entire service. Yeah, I follow Diddy and U2, but that’s about it. It would seem that even majority of the artists have not found their way to Ping yet. Within here lies the problem. Will these artists and masses adopt the service and make their own? It was not long ago that I was still finding messages on Facebook from people finding it difficult to adapt to the world of Facebook after abandoning Myspace.

Most of you might have noticed the latest update on our blog, that should all go well will soon be introduced to our main site as well. The dynamic web toolbar you can see at the bottom of the screen should add even more interaction opportunities and personally I’m pretty excited about the functionality.
Baseball

I like baseball, although the sport is not big in Finland I can appreciate the sport for the hand-eye coordination and skill it takes to master the sport. Also you tend to see some awesome stuff in baseball games, just like with any great sports. Take for instance the fantastic catch by Masato Akamatsu of the Hiroshima Toyo Carp. The dude clims the wall like Spiderman and eliminates Shuichi Murata’s chances for a homerun. Even if you’re not a fan of baseball or Spiderman, you got to hand it to the guy, the catch was amazing.
Old Spice – The Saga continues

So We’ve seen the campaign, heard the results, and shared these ads without friends and family (not to mention colleagues). The campaign did increase the Old Spice sales by what was it 107 %? And the statistics speak for themselves. Probably the campaign of the decade and now it’s over, or is it? What else could you possibly do with this crazy ad campaign to create even more buzz?
Pulse of the Nation – Twitter Moods
by Taavi Kuisma on Jul.22, 2010, under Headlines, Social Media & Advertising
OK, before I get on with the rest of my daily duties (and believe you me, there’s a lot to do) I thought of sharing this cool little finding. How do Americans feel during a day or let’s say a week? How would this show on a social media channel like Twitter that’s basically sharing people’s everyday feelings and antipathies? Well a group of researchers from Harvard got together, collected data from 300 million tweets over three years and and compared this against scholarly word list, U.S. Census Bureau, Google maps and more. The end product is a visualization that shows the tweeting emotions of the Nation. You got to love this, at least I find it pretty damn awesome.
